Magaliesburger Mitchell Krog's image of a Black-collared Barbet snapped up first place in the Professional Category of the Nikon Birds of the Magaliesburg Photographic Challenge 2009 sponsored by Nikon South Africa. The first prize was a R10,000 Nikon Voucher. "It's excellent to see a common garden bird take first place in a prominent bird photography competition, just goes to show that judges are not always in seek of images of birds of prey" says Mitchell. Second place in the professional category went to Eddie Reinecke from also Magaliesburg, keeping the top two placements at home in Magaliesburg. First place winner of the Student/Junior category was 6 year old Carlin Glansbeek with his image of a Pied Kingfisher. All the winning entries are below.
