LATEST NEWS:

On Sunday October 18th 2009 between 8:46 and 8:52 pm an other-worldly object appeared in South Africa's night skies. Radio stations and observatories were flooded with calls from citizens all thinking they had spotted a UFO. Mitchell Krog happened to be out and about photographing a lightning storm and noticed this strange object in the sky. Having spent his whole life watching the night skies and the last 4 years photographing them, he knew this was something out of the ordinary and immediately started capturing images of it. The object started off small and grew in size as it moved overhead and then out of sight. Mitchell had a 4 minute window to photograph this object and his images captured have received mass acclaim.

As it turns out this object was a Centaur rocket fired earlier in the day from VanDerBergh airforce base in California with a payload of a US military weather satellite named DMSP F-18. At the time the rocket and satellite, then separated, moved over South African skies, the centaur rocket dumped excess fuel which resulted in a glowing halo following the two objects across the sky.
